Today I am taking you on a tour of my bedroom! This is my absolute favourite space and where I spend most of my free time, but it is also the space I get asked most about! I value having a clean, organized, stylish space that represents my personal aesthetic and therefore makes me, feel like me!
The question I get asked most about my room is: "How do you keep it so clean?" and today I am going to share my tips on how to keep your space looking the best it can!
My bed is the focal point of my room, meaning, this is the largest and most eye catching part of the whole space. The first key tip on keeping your space clean is to make your bed! Studies have shown that if you make your bed every morning, you will be more successful (and who am I to argue with that?) So start your day with creating successful vibes and also by cleaning up the whole space - if my bed is not made, the whole spaces seems disorganized and dirty (even if everything else is cleaned up!) So keeping it made all the time will really make a difference and give your space a finished feel!
my second tip is to wash your sheets regularly! No need to be excessive, once every two weeks is normally enough!
My personal style includes a lot of white - I think white is one of the most versatile 'colours' and creates the most impact. If I could, I would paint my walls an off white - but unfortunately my room colour is not up to me! (one of the literally only down sides to living at home). So i've made the creamy brown tones work by contrasting the crisp white with it. Having the brown in my art above my bed creates the appearance of intention between the colours that i've tried to incorporate in other areas in the space.
I feel in love with these vintage Vogue magazine covers the second I saw them! I picked up these unique pieces in Paris a few years ago from a vendor along side the La Seine River. I must have spent nearly 20 minutes looking through the covers until I decided on these two: one that was bold and beautiful and the other smooth, artistic, and fluid in order to provide contrast. The frames are from IKEA (roughly $10.00 each) with a white piece of paper in the back to frame the art.
My nightstand is a little bit of a "catch-all" in my room, but the normal occupants are my alarm clock, a scented candle, a big glass of water, my Himalayan salt lamp that I purchased from the Crossfield Farmers Market, a Polaroid photo, and a roller bottle of essentials oils that help with coughing and sleeping.
The drawers of my night stand are where most of my random things end up, but is mostly full of my jewellery box, books i'm reading and photo albums.
Keeping the art and "table-top" items clean and simple keep your room looking the same - too much clutter will over power your space, so be careful to find a balance between representing who you are, and just having random things everywhere! (saying your space is eclectic is not an excuse for having clutter!)
My makeup table is a space I use A LOT. I share a bathroom with my sibling, so having this table makes it so I don't have to use the bathroom to get ready. The table, drawers, and stool are from IKEA and were relatively inexpensive (Desk: similar ones are about $100, Stool: $60.00 [NILS Stool], Drawers: $15.00 [LENNART Drawers]). The mosaic mirror was $30.00 (ish) from Home Depot. The hanging basket is from Bed, Bath & Beyond and was purchased for when I was living in residence, but has found a spot in my room to store my hair drier, curling wand, and straightener.
The most important tip for keeping this space clean is to pick a spot for everything and ALWAYS put it there! Make-up is one of the easiest things to just throw somewhere (especially when it's just sitting on a table), so set it up how you like it and continue to put it back in that spot!
Everything that I use regularly is on the top of the table, with other less used products stored in the drawers below. The mental container is also from IKEA and was probably like $2.00 - I use it to store the make-up I use most (mascara, foundation, my brow kit, my fav brushes etc.), the glass container was in a Christmas gift (so i'm not sure where it's from) and is where I store cotton pads! Other than those two, everything else is just placed on the table. I really like having all my favourite products out and ready to use (as well as being out for people to see!) What these products are is for another post (stay tuned!)
My desk also gets used at least once a day! This is the most important to keep clean and organized! This is the space I use for completing assignments, studying, and blogging - so it has to be inspiring, organized, and easy to be in!
I keep the table top relatively empty with the exception of my laptop, a large masson jar of water, and my important books. The shelfs are also more on the empty side because, like I said before, clutter is bad! This is just enough to make the space feel lived in and represent who I am, without being over powering!
The best way to keep this space clean and organized is , again, to find a spot for everything and keep it there! Laziness is easy, but it is SO worth it to keep up on putting thins away! Having drawers that are meant for specific types of items (for me: office supplies [pens, scissors, paper clips, etc.], paper, and important files) make's putting things away easy!
These are my "important books", what these are during school and during summer are different - right now these books are "Capture your Style" by Amiee Song, two types of calendars, and the latest issue of DOTE Magazine.
What on my shelf - Bottom Shelf:
For most, the closet is the most neglected space for cleanliness because like, who see's it right? WRONG! My closet is the space that holds my most precious belongings that everyone should be able to see <3
Keeping this clean keeps your clothes in good condition! Having the right space to store your clothes is so important - you need a spot for folded sweaters (so they don't stretch or get crumpled up) and enough space for your hanging clothes so they don't wrinkle due to lack of space!
I'm lucky to have a great closet layout, so I do have these spaces! But I also go through and purge my closet after every fashion season and give away things that I didn't wear, so I have space for the new clothes (that I probably already bought)!
This is the last tip I wanted to include for your bedroom space! This basket looks like it's full of blankets (which is a feature I LOVE in any room), but instead has slippers and other random bedroom things in it! Stuffing one blanket on the top, with the sides tucked in gives the appearance of a cute feature, while still being effective storage for random items!
Thank you for following along with my bedroom tour! Hope that you can find some inspiration from my style and create a clean, organized and styled space!
